Automotive manufacturers know that a
well maintained car, truck or SUV increases the owner's satisfaction
because the vehicle is more dependable and will last longer. That's
why the manufacturer ("factory") creates detailed maintenance
schedules. At a minimum, be sure to follow the factory maintenance
schedule. While you should always consult your owner's manual, many
manuals recommend that you service your car more frequently if you
drive in "severe" conditions such as; driving in
Houston's stop-and-go traffic, frequent short trips, extreme
temperatures, towing and hauling, extensive idling, or driving in
mountainous terrain.
Your car's manufacturer provides a schedule of maintenance that may
not be optimum for your vehicle long term performance. Manufacturers
utilize a schedule with the assumption that owners should purchase a
new vehicle every three years and therefore lengthen the service
intervals between to encourage the need for a new vehicle. Service
intervals are also spread out to allow them to promote a perceived
lower maintenance cost to the consumer.
